Case study overview

The work behind the result.

The Challenge

Office of Collecting & Design is more than a traditional website. It is a traveling museum, a community of collectors, a membership business, an online shop, and an evolving archive of objects, stories, press, and events.

Before the project, these experiences were spread across multiple platforms. The main website was built on Wix, while membership and subscription activity was managed through separate platforms including Patreon and Ko-fi.

This created a fragmented customer experience and made it harder to manage the business from a single place.

The goal was to bring these experiences together into one cohesive digital ecosystem — without losing the unique character of the brand.

The Solution

We migrated the website and business experience to Subbly and rebuilt the digital ecosystem around the way Office of Collecting & Design actually operates.

Instead of treating memberships, ecommerce, events, content, and customer communication as separate experiences, we created one connected platform where each part of the business has its own dedicated experience while remaining part of the same website.

The result is a more flexible foundation that gives the team greater control over content, products, memberships, events, and customer journeys.

The Clubs

A Dedicated Membership Experience

Memberships are at the heart of the Office of Collecting & Design community.

We created a dedicated The Clubs experience where visitors can explore the different clubs, understand what each membership offers, and choose the experience that fits them best.

Each club has its own dedicated subscription journey rather than forcing every membership into the same generic product experience.

This makes it easier for visitors to understand the different offerings while giving the team flexibility to manage multiple membership experiences from one platform.

Flexible Membership Models

Monthly and Annual Memberships

Different members want different levels of commitment, so we built flexible subscription options into the membership experience.

For memberships such as the Postcard Club, customers can choose between monthly and annual plans directly from the dedicated subscription page.

This creates a clearer path from discovering a club to choosing a membership and completing the subscription.

Waitlist Experience

Turning Unavailable Memberships Into Future Customers

Not every membership needs to be available immediately.

For clubs that are not currently open for subscriptions, we created a dedicated waitlist experience instead of simply showing an unavailable product.

Visitors can submit their email address and express interest in joining when the membership becomes available.

This turns unavailable inventory into an opportunity to build an interested audience and gives the team a way to reconnect with potential members later.

Ecommerce

A Dedicated One-Time Shop

Memberships are only one part of the business.

We also built a dedicated ecommerce experience for one-time purchases, allowing visitors to browse and purchase curated objects, curiosities, and merchandise without needing to become a member.

The shop provides a clear separation between recurring memberships and one-time purchases while keeping both experiences within the same website.

Individual Product Experiences

More Than Just a Product Grid

We created dedicated product pages for individual items, giving each product space for its own imagery, information, and purchasing journey.

This allows the team to build richer product experiences around unique objects rather than treating everything as a simple catalog item.

The result is a shopping experience that better reflects the collectible and curated nature of the brand.

Press & Content

A Living Press Archive

Office of Collecting & Design has a strong media presence, so we created a dedicated Press experience where the team can showcase coverage, publications, and notable mentions.

Rather than treating press as static website content, the structure allows the team to continue adding new highlights as the organization evolves.

This creates an ever-growing archive that reinforces the credibility and cultural relevance of the brand.

Tours & Events

A Website Built Around a Traveling Museum

Office of Collecting & Design is a traveling museum housed inside a 42-foot trailer, with tours taking place across the United States.

Because the physical experience moves from location to location, the website needed to make upcoming tours and events easy to discover and manage.

We built a dedicated Tour Dates experience where visitors can see upcoming appearances and find information about where the museum will be next.

The team can continue adding new tours and events as the schedule evolves.

Interactive Tour Details

Turning Each Stop Into Its Own Experience

Each tour or popup can have its own dedicated information and booking journey.

This gives the team the flexibility to present location-specific information, dates, event details, and relevant booking or ticketing paths without rebuilding the structure of the website every time a new tour is added.

The result is a flexible event system designed around the realities of a traveling business.

Member-Only Content

Creating Private Digital Experiences

The membership experience extends beyond subscriptions and payments.

We also built password-protected pages that allow the team to provide exclusive content to members.

The client can share access passwords directly with members, creating a simple layer of exclusivity without requiring a separate membership-content platform.

This gives Office of Collecting & Design another way to deliver value to its community after someone becomes a member.

Email & Customer Communication

EmailOctopus Newsletter Integration

We connected the website's newsletter experience with EmailOctopus, giving the team a dedicated system for managing newsletter subscribers and ongoing customer communication.

The website includes newsletter signup functionality that supports the broader membership, events, and ecommerce ecosystem.

This is particularly important for OCD because the newsletter can be used to keep the audience informed about upcoming tour dates, events, memberships, swaps, and new merchandise. The live website currently positions the newsletter around exactly these updates.

EmailOctopus provides tools for campaigns, automation, subscriber segmentation, forms, personalization, and reporting, making it a suitable foundation for ongoing audience communication.

Forms & Lead Capture

Web3Forms

We connected Web3Forms to handle website form submissions across the different experiences.

This gives the team a simple way to collect inquiries and customer information without introducing unnecessary complexity into the website.

Combined with the newsletter integration, this creates clear pathways for visitors to move from browsing to subscribing, joining a waitlist, contacting the team, or becoming part of the wider OCD community.

Design & Customer Experience

One Brand. Multiple Customer Journeys.

The challenge was not simply to rebuild the website.

The bigger challenge was creating a consistent experience across very different customer journeys:

  • Discovering the museum

  • Finding upcoming tour dates

  • Exploring membership clubs

  • Choosing a subscription

  • Joining a waitlist

  • Shopping for one-time products

  • Reading about press coverage

  • Accessing member-only content

  • Joining the newsletter

Each experience has a different purpose, but they all live within the same visual and structural system.

We designed the website so these journeys feel connected rather than like separate platforms stitched together.

From Multiple Platforms to One Digital Ecosystem

The project transformed a fragmented digital setup into a more unified platform.

Instead of managing the website, memberships, ecommerce, events, content, and customer communication across disconnected systems, Office of Collecting & Design now has a central digital experience built around its business model.

This gives the team more control over the website while creating a clearer experience for customers and members.

The Technology

Subbly — Website, memberships, subscriptions and ecommerce

EmailOctopus — Newsletter and customer communication

Web3Forms — Website forms and lead capture

Password-Protected Pages — Member-only digital content

The Outcome

The result is a digital platform that reflects the full scope of Office of Collecting & Design.

Memberships, ecommerce, tours, press, content, newsletter signup, and private member experiences now live within one connected website.

More importantly, the platform was built to evolve with the organization.

New clubs can be added.

New products can be published.

New tours can be scheduled.

New press coverage can be added.

New members can join.

And new experiences can be introduced without rebuilding the foundation each time.

One Platform. Multiple Experiences. One Connected Business.

Office of Collecting & Design needed a website that could do more than present the brand.

It needed a digital platform capable of supporting a membership community, ecommerce business, traveling museum, events calendar, content ecosystem, and growing audience.

By consolidating these experiences into one Subbly-powered platform, we created a more flexible foundation for the business — one designed not just for where OCD was today, but for where it can go next.
